Over the coming weekend, the second act of this year’s World Endurance Road Motorcycle Championship will take place in Estoril, Portugal. However, the Slovak Maco Racing team will not take part in the twelve-hour race there.
In the recent 24-hour race at Le Mans in France, the Maco Racing team took 11th place after the problems, while they really thought about placing in the top 10 in the team. but due to circumstances related to the Covid-19 pandemic, he eventually withdrew his participation in the Iberian Peninsula.
Martin Kuzma, team owner:
“The current situation around the coronavirus is unfavorable for each of us, the conditions for returning to our country are complicated, in addition, Portugal is one of the countries with the most widespread new Delta variant of the virus. I’m not talking about fear, but the personal experience of several people on our team with Covid-19 who lost the closest members of their families.
This is a time when we do not want to play heroes, but to behave humanely to those who work for our team one hundred percent, but are now going through a difficult period, and that is why the Maco Racing team will not participate in the following races in Estoril, Portugal. I am aware that we will lose important points in the World Cup, but above all I feel responsible for the people we are with as one family.
We believe that the Bol d´Or race will take place in September, which we will, of course, take part in. We thank our partners and fans for standing behind us even in this difficult times.”
