The Slovakia Ring Automotodrom hosted the weekend of 26-28. Of May 2023 two motorcycle events in same time. The opening race of the Alpe Adria International Championship was held on the large circuit, and the small circuit, the Slovak Karting Center, welcomed the Slovakian Junior International Championship. The Slovak team Maco Racing also presented itself on both tracks.
For the Alpe Adria championship, the race at the Slovakia Ring was the opening race of this season. The Maco Racing team, known primarily for the World Endurance Championship, took this event as a preparation for the 24-hour race of the World Endurance Championship, which will take place on June 17 and 18 at the Spa-Francorchamps circuit in Belgium. The team’s participation was also an ideal opportunity to show off to the home audience.
The Frenchman Enzo Boulom, who started in the Superstock 600 and Superstock 1000 classes, the Hungarian Bálint Kovács, who appeared in the Superbike class, and the young Slovak Lukáš Végh, who started in the Supersport 300 class, appeared in the saddle of Yamaha team motorcycles.
In the big classes, Boulom and Kovács were among the favorites to win, unfortunately the Frenchman Boulom crashed in the first race of the Superstock 600 class and damaged his bike so much that he could not even start the second race. But he made up for it all in the Superstock 1000 class, in which he won both races and is also at the head of the current championship ranking. Hungarian Kovács was similarly successful, taking home trophies from Slovakia Ring for victory and second place.
Lukáš Végh, for whom the race at the Slovakia Ring was only the second in the Supersport 300 class, is primarily gaining experience and has certainly fulfilled his goal of gaining experience and improving his times compared to last year.
Competitors of the Maco Junior Racing team also took trophies on the karting circuit. The victories in the JuniorGP 110 class were shared by Lucián Végh and Roman Masár, in the PW 50 class he scored points for the victory and Simon Végh took second place.
Martin Kuzma, team owner:
On the home circuit, our team presented itself in excellent form and it also meant a successful test for us before the upcoming 24-hour race in Belgium. In the Superstock 600 class, Enzo fell in the fight for victory and with a damaged bike it meant a stop for him for the second race as well.
In the Superstock 1000 class, Enzo claimed second place on the grid, but the goal was to win the race for our team, the Yamaha R1 and Dunlop, and that was achieved as his experience showed and he controlled the entire race from first place. Although Enzo fell in Sunday’s warm-up practice and the team had a lot of work to repair the motorcycle, we managed to prepare it, and although it was not in 100% condition, Enzo also won the second race when he decided his triumph in the last corner.
In the Superbike class, Bálint Kovács won second place at the start with a loss of only one tenth of a second to his opponent, but also in this class our goal was victory for our team, Yamaha and Dunlop. Bálint got off to a perfect start, he took the lead in the first lap and managed to keep it until the winning end. In his case, however, he crashed in the warm-up before Sunday’s race, and the bike was completely destroyed, so he had to start in the second race on a substitute machine in Superstock specification. With that, he could not fight for the victory, but he still managed to win second place, and thus they have the same number of points at the head of the current standings of the championship.
In the Supersport 300 class, Lukáš Végh started in his second race on a big bike, so he is in the learning phase. Therefore, we were not concerned with any super results, but with improving the driving and the times, which was achieved when he improved his best time from last year by six seconds. In the first race, he didn’t get a start and drove far behind his opponents, in the second race he already drove in contact with his opponent, and although he fell trying to overtake him, he still gained valuable experience that will move him forward in the next races.
Thank you to my complete team, riders, mechanics, for the excellent work what we had done and big thanks to our partners and fans for their nice support.
